Main driven shaft gears testing

Main driven shaft gears are widely used as drive component in mechanical systems like vehicle axles, their meshing performance directly affect quality of the axle and technical level, thus testing every indicator of tooth form after gear cutting is vital. We produce American Gleason reducing tooth and Oerlikon constant-depth tooth, though their cutting methods are not the same, but they share the same testing methods.

 

1. Accuracy Detection
Gear accuracy is the comprehensive performance of gear finisher, gear blank quality, assembling process, cutting blade and heat-treatment quality, it is an important indicator to determine the level of gear quality. Hubei Axle Co., Ltd. uses M&M gear tester, the accuracy level of NAVECO, FT, MB etc constant-depth gear produced our company reaches level 6, all types of series B, D, F, N, Q gears qualify level 7. 

 

2. Tooth contact area analysis
First of all, adjusting the tooth space testing instrument to theoretical installation distance, running the instrument a short time under light-loading condition, then observing the situation of tooth contact area. The ideal shape of the tooth contact area approximates oval, and the contact area should centralize at the middle of tooth surface, the length approximates 35%-65% of total tooth surface length, and the width of contact area should be within 40%-70% of total tooth depth, any form of edge contact, wider or narrower contact, longer or shorter contact, inner or outer diagonal is not allowed. The technician should obey the deformation regularity after heating-treatment to ensure the requirement of contact area during cutting process.

 

3. The measurement of chordal thickness, gear backlash and backlash variation.
Normally, gear tooth vernier calipers are used to test the chordal thickness of main driven shaft gear, together with the examining machine. Putting the contact of dial indicator vertically on the outer surface of the main gear, fastening the pinion, then wave the main gear, the swing range of the pointer is the gear backlash. The d-value of the maximum and the minimum of is the backlash variation, its value will affect the transmission stability and noise level.

 

4. Gear roughness, action noise testing
In normal circumstances, the technician usually comparing with the stand coupon to test the roughness of gear surface. If the roughness is bad, the gear surface will show corrugated or discontinuous stripe, the noise will increase with it. Gear noise is the main indicator to identify the quality level of gears, those gears in high quality drive continuously and smoothly with lower noise.
